Build your Winter Mountain Confidence...

Designed for experienced winter walkers ready to move into more technical terrain, this four-day course develops the essential skills for safe, confident winter mountaineering. You’ll learn to manage steep snow and mixed ground, use ropes and anchors to protect short climbs, and plan and navigate effectively in serious winter conditions. With flexible itineraries and experienced guides, this course blends skill-building with classic mountaineering journeys across the Cairngorms and beyond.

Participant Requirements

Fitness

You should have experience in winter walking and have good fitness for a day on the steep terrain.

Level

This course suits hillwalkers looking to step into winter mountaineering with supportive, hands-on coaching. Previous scrambling experience is helpful but not required.

Equipment

You’ll need winter clothing, boots, and basic climbing kit including axe, crampons, helmet, and harness.
